What began as a routine doctor’s appointment to investigate their son’s unusual level of fatigue, has turned into an adventure that no parent wants to embark on with their child. Kai, son of Sam Furgusson and Lee White. was diagnosed with Leukemia and rushed to Vancouver and will need treatment for the next 3 ½ years.
He is determined, brave, strong, and supported by his incredible family, who find themselves travelling a path they never imagined. They have had to spend several months in Vancouver for treatment, and will be travelling back and forth for many more. “We miss our Cumberland home but are making the best of being
urban dwellers for a while.” says Kai’s mother Sam, “This is all very overwhelming and emotional but the relationships we are building with our favourite doctors and nurses make the road a bit easier. They support us through tears and frustration and we often find a little bit of humour where we can.”
On April 16th at 7:00 pm, friends and neighbors will be hosting a benefit at the Waverly Hotel, supported by several generous and talented musicians and artists. Musical acts will include: PK Tessman, Helen Austin & Doug Cox, Archie Patemen and Ben Rogalsky of the Breakman, Corwin Fox, Bobby and Meg, Shane Philips, Dukes of Dodge and more. The evening will also include a silent auction. Sam and Lee are dedicated volunteers and valued community members – it is the group’s hope to raise funds so that the family may fully support Kai without the stress of financial hardship.
