Open House: Beachcombers Academy Embraces New BC Curriculum

Beachcombers Academy is an innovative and successful primary school that has embraced the new BC Curriculum that is being rolled out across BC this September. Beachcombers Academy & Little Oysters Preschool is holding an open house on Thursday September 1st from noon to 2:00 pm and is offering informal discussions on the new curriculum as well as a tour of the facilities. Everyone is welcome.

The new BC curriculum encourages concept-based teaching and experiential learning. “At Beachcombers Academy we have always practiced this kind of approach to learning with our unique Coastal Studies program and nature-inspired academics. Our program engages students in learning. Beachcombers students are excited about learning! This is what I love most about our school. The new curriculum just gives us that more flexibility for creative teaching. We are very excited about it,” said Principal Wendy Preston.

Beachcombers Academy is an established independent school now entering into its seventh year of operation. In addition to their unique Coastal Studies program, they offer a Respect & Kindness program, dedicated art and music programs, French and water sports. It is an enriched program with quality academics.

“We believe that experiential learning must be balanced with solid academics. Reading and math are foundation skills that are used throughout over lives and are needed for a child’s academic success. At Beachcombers we have achieved a balanced approach. Experiential learning enhances Beachcombers Academy’s solid academic program. Beachcombers’ students transition very successfully into new schools following graduation from Beachcombers,” said Preston.

Beachcombers’ location across from the ocean, lends itself to experiential learning with a large estuary, and coastal waters at its doorstep. “Beachcombers Academy has received multiple commendations from BC Ministry of Education inspectors over the years.  We are very proud of what we do and of the wonderful teachers who give so much to our students,” said Preston.

Beachcombers Academy is operated by Beachcombers Education Society, a registered non-profit society, for the benefit of children and their families. For more information about the school and preschool see their website at BeachcombersSchool.ca. The school offers bursaries for low-income families. Parents are invited to book individualized tours or come to the Open House on Thursday September 1st at noon.
