Cumberland Remembrance Day

In Cumberland today, a parade will begin at 10:45 am on 3rd Street at the Village Square by the old post office.

The parade will march down Dunsmuir Avenue until reaching the Cumberland Legion, where a ceremony will be held at 11:00 am.

Spectators are welcome at the parade, though they are encouraged to start lining up at around 10:30, if they’d like to get a good spot.

The Legion holds the sacred trust of ensuring the tradition of remembrance is observed by Canadians every year at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

This tradition dates back to the First World War when the guns fell silent, marking the end of military conflict and the Remembrance of those who would never return home. The National Poppy and Remembrance Campaign raise funds for veterans and their families, the new military and others who are disadvantaged.
