Jack Chow had his roots in Cumberland

Jack Chow passed away peacefully February 9th from natural causes. Mr. Chow was born in Cumberland and lived here with his family, who ran the Chow Lee General store until he moved to Vancouver to go to high school.

In Vancouver he became a successful business man and bought the Sam Kee building at 8 E. Pender St (known as the Jack Chow Insurance building), which was famous for being the narrowest commercial building in the world, only 4′ 11″ wide on the street level floor!

Mr. Chow was honoured by the Village of Cumberland during visits back to his hometown, and on his visit for his 90th birthday he received a certificate of appreciation from Mayor Leslie Baird.
