JAMIE HAS BEEN FOUND ALIVE!!!
Update on behalf of Jamie’s daughters Flora and Annabelle:
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped out with the search. Flora says, “This is the best birthday present ever.”
From the Comox Valley Echo: “A missing Cumberland man has been found alive after vanishing five days ago. Jamie Sproule was breathing fairly well when he was found about 400 yards up from the rock cairn by Jumbo’s cabin at the western edge of the village.
“He was laying in the heavy brush,” said Mike Williamson, Cumberland’s Fire Chief, as he rushed to the hospital to check on the man’s condition. “He couldn’t move.”
Sproule was extremely dehydrated as community member raced to get the man to St. Joseph’s General Hospital.
“He was definitely alive,” Williamson said.
The long-time Cumberland resident is well known in the community, and is married to village councillor Gwynne Sproule. He is suffering from Parkinson’s disease and mild dementia.
He went for a walk Thursday morning at around 11:30 a.m. on a route along Comox Lake Road near the Chinatown Historic Park but did not return. At around 1 p.m. the family became alarmed and contacted the RCMP.
The official search logged more than 1,100 hours of trained rescue operations but was suspended after three days.
Family and friends vowed not to give up hope and continued to look for Sproule, resulting in his discovery early Tuesday evening.
