The Cumberland Community Schools Society is a registered Canadian charity that works in our community in partnership with Cumberland Schools, community groups, and volunteers to provide educational and support services for students and local residents while increasing the use of our schools.
CCSS is a registered charity that has been working in the Village of Cumberland since 2000. CCSS operates on the belief that learning is a life-long process and that schools should exist not in isolation, but as part of the local community.
We take one of the largest and most under-utilized public facilities – the School buildings – and keep them open on evenings and weekends for community activities. Operating out of Cumberland Community School, CCSS works to address the needs of all age groups, by providing programs for parents & babies, after-school programs, a healthy lunch program, adult education as well as youth programs and services.
CCSS is working hard to provide more opportunities for youth in Cumberland. In August 2015, CCSS hired a Youth Coordinator to develop a drop-in centre for Cumberland teens; a safe place for youth to hang out; offering programming, work experience, life skills, support services and opportunities for leadership. The Youth Centre opened in early 2015 and is proving to be a great success.
