Village Market Day

The best of Legendary Cumberland hits the streets this Saturday!

Downtown Cumberland is truly at it’s best each year for Village Market Day. The cherry trees are in full blossom, the stores, pubs and restaurants have their best on display, and families of all ages fill the streets for music, shopping and visiting with friends and neighbours It’s a special day for both residents and visitors and one that locals are happy to invite the whole Valley to come and be part of.

Village Market Day is part of the Empire Week Celebrations in the Village and it’s the day that puts the spotlight on the local business and non profit community. It’s a wonderful day to taste some of the fantastic food available in the Village and the menu offerings include tasty pub grub, sushi, deli sandwiches, breakfast and brunch specialties, burgers, fine chocolates, fair trade coffee, and of course famous Cumberland doughnuts! Bring your bike and take to the trails for a ride, watch the birds and bees along beautiful walking paths or pack a blanket and a picnic and head down to #6 Mine Park, Village Square or Village Park with the whole family.

Market Day kicks off at 10 am on Saturday the 18th and the streets will be filled with vendors of all kinds. Arts and crafts are a big focus of the day and you’ll fine all kinds of amazing original creations including clothing, jewelry, candles and more! Local community organizations will be signing up volunteers and talking about their projects and dreams. Kids can enjoy free fun activities including a soap box derby at 10 am, face painting, a Bounca-rama, and a Balloon Typhoon for the little kids. Gardeners can stop by the Cumberland Community Forest Planet sale and music lovers can kick back and take in some tunes in Village Square from 11 till 4pm thanks to Cumberland Village Works.

Market Day is a project of the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce with their community partners. This year Cumberland Dental Centre has come on board as a major sponsor through providing free kids activities on Saturday.

(Don’t forget to come back Monday the 20th for the big parade at 10 am and take in a classic Cumberland tradition – the May Pole Dance and the crowning of the May Queen in Village Park!)
