Coming soon to Downtown… Sidewalk Cafes!

The Village Council meeting this past Monday had something pretty exciting on the agenda… Sidewalk Cafes.

A policy is in the works that will allow downtown businesses to use the sidewalks in front of their stores for tables and chairs (some already do) and in some cases even a parking stall to create patios.

Sidewalk Cafes provide an additional place for residents to “socialize relax and engage.” This is great for downtown revitalization! Senior Planner at the Village, Judith Walker’s Sidewalk Cafe Report is available online at cumberland.ca

Here is a great article about a grocery store in the city of Austin and their conversion of two parking spaces into patio space.
