A Goal of Putting the Comox Valley on the Map for Gaming Convention

Local businesses Games and Grounds Coffee House and Undiscovered Photography are excited to be bringing InCON Family Gaming Convention to the valley for its second year.  “There are many awesome conventions that are fairly close, from BC and Alberta and Washington state.  Specifically on the Island there is GottaCon down in Victoria.  However, because both our businesses are focussed on gaming and all that is ‘geek’, we want to bring this awesomeness right to our community.  We have a quality event we’ve created, and it will grow each year.  It’s our goal to become one of the cons that are part of the circuit for convention attendees.” states Courtney Pozzolo, co-owner of the geek-themed cosplay photography business based in Courtenay.

Co-owner of Games and Grounds, Alex Greenwood explains what is at the convention this year.  “Many of our activities are suitable for children and youth, plus we’ll have a Kids’ Fair available for 3 hours/day specifically for children and their parents/caregivers. There will be a Costume Contest for Cosplayers – people who fashion costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea.  We’ll also have a number of game demo’s, panels and info sessions representing a variety of subjects.  We are excited to have Special Guests Dave Gaider and Randy Mosiondz who represent the gaming industry. Gaming tournaments are big – and we have a good variety happening.  There will be four Magic: The Gathering tournaments – a PPTQ, a SCGIQ, a Game Day and a 2 Headed Giant, and there will be Booster Drafts in pods of 8 as well.  We also have 2 day miniatures tournies in Warmachine/Hordes, Warhammer Fantasy and 40K and we have a miniatures painting contest, too.  Our board game tournaments consist of Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, Dominion and Lords of Waterdeep.  And yes, we even have console tournaments in Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8.”

The Convention is set for August 8 and 9, and will be held in the Florence Filberg Centre and the Native Sons Hall.  FMI or to purchase tickets you can visit http://inconcv.com/
