The 6th Annual Elevate Arts Festival is set to launch! This May 31st to June 3rd the streets, alleys and gathering spaces of Downtown Courtenay take flight. Over 200 performers, artists and community animators from the Valley and across the Salish Sea will come together to launch this exciting convergence of and ideas!
Elevate features evening events Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that culminate in a day and night multi-venue street festival on Saturday June 3rd. All events are free to attend and getting involved is highly encouraged!
Wednesday night you can take in Community Voices II, a LIFT/Elevate/CV Collective collaboration celebrating community innovators and creators at the Courtenay Legion and the Elevate Launch Party at Gladstone! Thursday night visit the The Basement Show: Views from the Edge Pop Up Art Show at St Georges United Church, Youth Music Blast Off at Union Street Grill or get super silly with Comedy and Karaoke at Billy D’s! Friday night its the highly anticipated Elevate Underground Cabaret at the Lower Elks, the Image to Text to Image Community Opening at CVAG, the Bacon Slam poetry showdown at Cornerstone and live music events throughout downtown! Saturday just plan to head downtown at 11 and stay for the duration with 13+ performance locations, vendors, pop up performances, galleries, art and craft making, a Street Carnival at 4 and Elevate Finale! at 9 pm!
And that’s just a snapshot! Volunteer organizers will be hard at work until the 11th hour bringing together all the diverse parts and pieces of this barrier free community celebration! And there are still lots of cool ways to get involved! A quick visit to the Elevate website will fill you in on opportunities to enter photographs for exhibition, perform in poetry, music or dance showcases or bring your community organization into the streets with a hands on activity. Or you can sign on as a volunteer and be the fuel in the Elevate engines! Crews include signage, production and site, hospitality, info booth, technical and stage crews, art teams and more.
But the clock is ticking and launch is imminent! Mark your calendar for May 31- June 1st and climb on board this stellar star ship! The Elevate Arts Festival is a participatory event, designed around the idea of breaking down barriers between culture creators and culture consumers. It’s dedicated to street level, DIY, participatory community engagement in the cultural life of our community and celebrating the streets, alleys, plazas and creative spaces we share in common.
