Cumberland Lantern Release 2015

Cumberland Lantern Release 2015

This year’s LunarFest 2015 kicked off with the annual Taiwanese Lanterns release on Friday, February 13th.  This very popular event started at 7pm at the Cumberland Cultural Centre parking lot, and as always it was a wonderful success.

The rain poured from the skies all day long and late in the afternoon the locals were treated to a break in the weather just in time for the lanterns to be released.  Hundreds of people came out to watch as the giant lanterns were lit and gently raised to the heavens.  And most  of the lanterns did soar way up into the night’s sky.  There were a couple of lanterns that refused to cooperate and thankfully the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department was on-hand to stave off any misfortunate accidents.
