All Candidates Meeting for the Cumberland By-Election, September 17th, 2024

With Councillor Jesse Ketler stepping down, a seat has opened on Cumberland Council and several worthy contenders have stepped up in the race to who will influence Cumberland’s social and economic future. Who will get the most votes and take their seat in council?

In the running are:

Ken Barth

Thea Cockerton

Nick Ward

Sasquatch

Get your vote on! Currently Cumberland has teamed up with Cumberland Bulletin Board to host an All Candidates Meeting at 6:30, Tuesday, September 17th at the Buchanan Hall. The meeting will also be live-streamed from the Currently Cumberland Facebook page .

As of writing this post August 31st, Candidate Cockerton has indicated she will not be present at the meeting, despite offers of accommodations such as date and time changes, stating she is not running her campaign on self-promotion and people that know her know her credentials (Currently Cumberland can attest she is indeed and upstanding community member).  Candidate Sasquatch has proven to be unreachable so far, but maybe they will surprise us with attendance. Sasquatch, if you’re reading this, we’d love to here about your values and policies!

Nick Ward is currently the most forthcoming candidate, with active door knocking and social media presence, and has a solid record of community activism and volunteering.

There is also scant online information about Ken Barth, but he is believed to have a background of environmental activism  among other worthy community initiatives (Sidewalks!).

Attending the All-Candidates Meeting might just be the best way to select from these worthy options.

Advance voting is Wednesday, Sept 11th and September 18th, 8am to 8pm, at the Council Chambers, and voting day is Saturday September 21st, 8am to 8pm at the Buchanan Hall. One vote per person, no exceptions!

Currently Cumberland wishes all the candidates the best of luck.
